Preparing and Recruiting a Diverse Faculty Initiative
The Preparing and Recruiting a Diverse Faculty Initiative is aimed at recruiting new women PhD graduates in sciences and engineering to academic careers at WSU or at other research academic institutions. The following programs/activities were created to address this initiative:
-
PRO-NET Proactive Recruitment and Network Development program has two objectives: 1) to proactively recruit qualified women within target hiring areas for WSU STEM disciplines and introduce them to WSU, the target department, and faculty; and 2) to identify and develop a network of established women, senior-faculty, from other research intensive institutions who are invited to serve as ADVANCE at WSU Fellows; in such capacity the expectation is that, while at WSU, they will provide a presentation about their scholarship, learn about WSU, and return to their research institutions to serve as recruitment "ambassadors" for WSU with new STEM Ph.D. recipients, especially women.
-
Hiring Augmentation program provides the means to augment hiring packages in individualized meaningful ways to support the needs of diverse faculty-hirees.
-
Summer Doctoral Fellows (SDF) program helps prepare new Ph.D. women and underrepresented graduates for faculty positions in institutions of higher education. ADVANCE at WSU specifically targets SDF recruitment of women in STEM disciplines.
- Recruitment Resources program provides tools (e.g., Prospective Faculty Resource manual) and training materials (e.g., search chair and committee training materials) to support best and promising recruitment and hiring practices.
