Proposal Title: Profiles of Associate Professors: Clustering Associate Professors Based on Their Job Satisfaction
Principal Investigator: KD Joshi, Professor of Information Systems, WSU
Project Overview and Connection with ADVANCE Initiatives
The prior analysis of the COACHE data focused on comparing faculty across ranks, i.e., comparing assistants, associates, and full professors which revealed that even after controlling for time since tenure, gender, and academic disciplines, associate professors are consistently less satisfied than the assistant and full professors. The objective of this proposed work is to further extend our understanding of the associate professors’ career development at WSU within the context of their job satisfaction levels. >More
Proposal Title: Stuck in the Middle: Examining the Factors that Affect Tenure-Track Faculty’s Satisfaction at WSU
Principal Investigator: KD Joshi, Professor of Information Systems, WSU
Project Overview and Connection with ADVANCE Initiatives
This work examines factors that shape faculty satisfaction of un-tenured faculty at WSU. The past literature suggests that employees who are satisfied with their jobs and organizations perform better and are less likely to leave the organization. Therefore, it is critical to uncover factors that shape faculty satisfaction at WSU. This work analyzes the COACHE data in an effort to uncover additional insights over and beyond what was included in the detailed report provided by COACHE. Overall, the work related attributes and institutional/unit climate collectively determine the level of satisfaction of un-tenured faculty at WSU. >More
