<>Laura Lavine, ChairInterim Director, ADVANCE at WSU
Associate Professor, Department of Entomology

Dr. Laura Lavine, Interim Director for ADVANCE at WSU, oversees the activities that are run through the ADVANCE at WSU offices involving ADVANCE at WSU initiatives and facilitates multiple infrastructure meetings e.g., the ADVANCE at WSU Office Staff, Program Implementation Team and Departmental Liaisons. She facilitates the Steering Committee meetings and is the program coordinator for the transitions grants.  Laura provides oversight for program development with a focus on keeping academic units informed about ADVANCE activities to further the progress toward institutional transformation.

<>Candis ClaibornclaibornDean and Professor, Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture

Dr. Candis Claiborn, co-PI on the NSF ADVANCE at WSU Institutional Transformation grant, shares responsibility for management of the project funds with Dr. Bates. She also serves as a liaison between the ADVANCE at WSU program and the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture, and is instrumental in identifying Departmental Liaisons within the engineering faculty.

Dr. Rebecca Craft’s current research in psychology explores sex differences, using an animal model, in the effects of psychoactive drugs – primarily opioids (e.g., morphine, codeine) and cannabinoids (e.g., THC, the psychoactive compound in marijuana). In her capacity for ADVANCE at WSU, she promotes and monitors the External Mentor Program. She also is evaluating current internal faculty mentoring programs and will be working with department chairs to strengthen faculty mentoring programs.

Regents Professor of Psychology
College of Arts and Sciences

Dr. Frances K. McSweeney, co-PI on the NSF ADVANCE at WSU Institutional Transformation grant, serves as a liaison between the ADVANCE at WSU program, the Office of the Provost, and other administrative offices. She provides expertise in all areas related to the faculty. She has worked with members of the ADVANCE Program Implementation Team to gather data about faculty, including the COACHE survey and the Cohort Analysis of the Transition from Associate Professor to Professor. She works with those data to help to formulate policies that will advance all faculty members, with special awareness of women in STEM.

Professor of Sociology

Dr. Amy S. Wharton, co-PI on the NSF ADVANCE at WSU Institutional Transformation grant, has primary responsibility for the ADVANCE at WSU research effort. This includes coordination of the ADVANCE Research group, collection of NSF Indicators, and oversight of WSU’s participation in the faculty COACHE survey. She also assists with implementation of the ADVANCE Leadership Initiative.

Mrs. Lyon provides administrative support to the director for ADVANCE at WSU. She serves as the liaison for various constituent groups both on and off campus on behalf of ADVANCE at WSU.
