Writing, Procrastination, and Resistance: How to Identify Your Writing Blocks and Move Through Them
A National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity Workshop
This event is free and open to all WSU faculty and graduate students.
The Presenter
Erin Furtak, PhD
Professor, Education

The Workshop
Writing projects often get postponed in the hope of finding large blocks of uninterrupted time. Procrastination and avoidance frequently become obstacles, even for those with a strong desire to write. This workshop provides actionable strategies and tools to address writing resistance and build consistent habits for productivity.
Participants will:
- Identify what resistance is and why academic writers experience it in pursuit of their work
- Discuss the three most common types of writing blocks and identify strategies to overcome them
- Learn how to pinpoint what is holding them back from writing and completing their projects (e.g., article, dissertation, book manuscript, grant proposal, etc.)
- Explore strategies for creating the community, support, and accountability needed for writing and publishing success
