International Women’s Week Social 2019

2019 International Women’s Week Social

  • Monday, March 4th
    • Women’s Recognition Celebration, CUB Senior Ballroom, 6-9PM
The rich tradition of women’s contributions to Washington State University encompasses teachers and scholars, staff and advisors, students and alumni, administrators and regents, volunteers and friends. The WSU Women of Distinction and Woman of the Year Awards are presented annually during National Women’s History Month to recognize the achievements and contributions of women to the academic and local community, and to our society.
    • Facets of Fashion Art Exhibit opens in the SEB Gallery
This year we’re exploring women’s lives through the lens of fashion. This exhibit, which will be up in the CUB throughout the month, will highlight several different aspects of fashion: as art, as culture, and as pain. This exhibit was developed in collaboration with Carol Salusso and Manal Shaheen from Apparel, Merchandising, Design, and Textiles, who are lending both their expertise and portions of their collections to this exhibit. For more information, please contact Carol Salusso. Fashion: The Threads that Bind Us opens in Holland-Terrell. This exhibit featuring classic fashion plates and the social context of fashion over time will be up in the Libraries for the first two weeks of March. For more information, contact Lorena O’English
  • Tuesday, March 5th
    • KIND bars on the CUB Spine, 11-2
Join us at lunchtime to take a moment to honor the influential women in your life, and enjoy a KIND bar while you’re at it.
We will be tabling over lunchtime throughout the week; look for us!
    • International Women’s Week Social, Butch’s Den, 3-5
Join us once again in honoring those at WSU positively impacting the lives of here and abroad. This year we’ll also be exploring fashion as a force in women’s lives throughout the week – expect to see culturally and artistically significant pieces! Hot tea and light refreshments will be provided; you bring the fascinating conversation! There is no cost to attend, but space may be limited; we’re accepting reservations. If you would like to see someone honored at this event, please nominate them. We will visually highlight their accomplishments and the impact they have on our community during the social.
  • Wednesday, March 6th
    • Tabling in the Cub Spine. Stop by between 11 and 2 to take part in an activity honoring women.
Rumor has it there may be buttons or stickers!
Fashion as Culture Showcase, Library Atrium, 10-3
The International Students Council is going to have a showcase of cultural clothing from many parts of the world. Walk through the library atrium at Holland-Terrell between 10 and 3 to see pieces that belong to WSU students; if you’re lucky, they’ll be present to answer any questions you have about their outfits!
  • Thursday, March 7th
    • CUB Tabling. If you haven’t managed it yet (or even if you have), stop by our table to take part in an activity honoring important women in your life, and pick up an International Women’s Day button to wear on Friday!
  • Friday, March 8th – International Women’s Day!
    • Carnations in the Cub. From 11AM until we run out of flowers, we’ll be handing out carnations and inspirational notes to anyone who wants one. Every year, we do this to honor International Women’s Day. Did you get a flower last year?
    • Women’s Center Art Show “The Faces We Show” Opening Reception, 11-1. Campus and community artists are invited to submit pieces that connect with International Women’s Day and the theme “The Faces We Show.” We are accepting submissions now! Pieces will be displayed throughout Women’s History Month in the Women’s Center. We have remodeled and have even more space for art. This midday opening reception will feature light refreshments, striking art, and interesting conversation. Stop by!
    • Fashion as Identity Coffee Hour at the International Center, 3-4
    • Join the International Center and ATVP for a casual conversation about what fashion means as part of identity. Expect the conversation to be far-reaching! If you haven’t visited the International Center, this is an excellent way to get to know this invaluable campus resource.
    • Clueless, CUB Auditorium, 6-8
The Student Entertainment Board has gotten into the spirit of International Women’s Day and our fashion theme, and will be showing Clueless! This film is a classic, and it’s always worth watching.
