Grant Opportunities and Programs

Grant opportunities are available in 3 current programs:

  • External Mentor program provides career-development opportunities for STEM faculty of all ranks to work with a noted expert in their discipline in a manner that would help address barriers to involvement of women in STEM disciplines. Read the program guidelines.
  • Leadership Training program provides funds for proposals that have identified suitable leadership programs, training, or additional opportunities.  This support is available to  women tenure-track and tenured STEM faculty and tenure-track and tenured underrepresented minorities in all disciplines. Read the program guidelines.
  • Social Sciences Research Program provides funds for proposals aimed at generating publishable research on factors affecting the recruitment, retention and advancement of women in STEM disciplines. Read the program guidelines.
  • Transitions program provides assistance during work/life transition periods to ease stressors and to support faculty in maintaining the excellence of their work. Read the program guidelines.

Work/Life Support Initiative

  • Transitions program provides assistance during work/life transition periods to ease stressors and to support faculty in maintaining the excellence of their work.

Preparing and Recruiting a Diverse Faculty Initiative

  • Recruitment Resources provide tools (e.g., Prospective Faculty Resource manual) and training materials (e.g., search chair and committee training materials) to support best and promising recruitment and hiring practices.
  • Lactation Center is a private, secure and clean space for nursing mothers to breastfeed and pump milk.

Institutionalizing Transformation Initiative

  • Office of ADVANCE at WSU provides inform to search committees and prospective faculty friendly policies and programs aimed at supporting tenure track women faculty in STEM disciplines as well as underrepresented minority faculty.
  • Scientific American Article; “How Diversity Makes Us Smarter, Being around people who are different from us makes us more creative, more diligent and harder-working”
The ADVANCE Research program provides:
  • The development and dissemination of ADVANCE grant-related social science research (e.g., Collaborative on the Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE) survey dissemination, data collection and analysis, and results dissemination; WSU chair’s interviews).
